Book 1 of 3 in the “Penelope Hazard” series. We meet 15 year-old Penelope just after her parents have moved her from Illinois to St. Georges, Florida — a gated community occupied (largely) by retirees. It’s summer and Penelope hasn’t met any kids her age. Dad writes spy novels and mom’s a lawyer. They might be the closest ones in age to her . . . but still. Her summer is looking dismally boring.
That is, until one of the retirees literally drops dead at the St. Georges Yacht Club. Penelope teams up with her new friend/fake Grandpa, Bags, to get to the bottom of what happened. What happened might be a mystery, but it’s not an accident. It’s murder, Florida-style.
